Resilience, Values & Mindfulness in the Workplace:
A Four-Session Skills Building Workshop

With Gerry Fontan, Ph.D. and Jen Chau Fontan, M.S.

Work can get us down and too often becomes a major source  of stress and anxiety.  When this happens it becomes difficult to feel connected to the work that we do and we may lose sight of what it looks like to thrive in the workplace.

This four-session workshop is designed to help you identify how your personal values can inform how you act and how you experience your work.  Using a variety of evidence-based tools including mindfulness practices we will show you how to respond to challenges that can get in the way of greater career satisfaction, and instead, move you closer to a career lifestyle that makes sense, is aligned with your values, and integrates what truly matters to you.

Our emotional functioning is often overlooked in the workplace.  Considering that many of us spend more time at work than any other single activity our experience of work contributes greatly to our overall mental and emotional well-being.  Ideally, we are able to work in a way that is consistent with our values and maintain a lifestyle that is satisfying and makes sense to us.  We want to feel that our work is important, impactful and meaningful.  At times, internal thoughts, feelings and moods can become obstacles that get in the way of this.  When feelings like worry, fear and intimidation show up, we may lose the ability to remain focused and it becomes difficult to respond to challenges in a way that is more effective, impactful, and consistent with our values.

This four-session workshop will focus on teaching mindfulness skills and the ability to engage in values-based action in the workplace.  We will guide participants in the process of identifying their values and how to translate these values into achievable goals.  We will also explore how the content of our minds in the form of unwanted or difficult thoughts, feelings and sensations may interfere with our functioning at work.  Using mindfulness practices, we will demonstrate how to become more present and tolerant of these difficult thoughts and feelings so they do not continue interfering with our ability to live happier, more resilient, and values consistent lives.

While the emphasis will be on participants’ professional and career related experiences, the skills taught in this workshop may be used in all areas of  life to promote greater effectiveness, concentration and confidence.
